Background

to the painting of St Ogg's

In 1860 George Eliot published her classic novel - The Mill on the Floss. This novel was set in the 1820's and depicted life in the village of St. Ogg's on the River Floss in Lincolnshire, England. This painting is a scene showing what I think St. Ogg's might have looked like.
